Cultural diversity: why we should respect other cultures
A modern society considers diversity a new trend, it is going viral in a good way. Tolerance, acceptance, support and freedom of choice describe a developed human being today. There are several reasons why cultural diversity needs to be sacred.
Brand new insight
Meeting new people and spending time with them, we embrace our society with its advantages and drawbacks. If we are lucky enough, we go to visit other countries and see workplaces, schools which are not the same as in a country we are from. If we accept this variety, a fascinating thing will happen, we will give our mindset a whole new level. It means that people different from us can give an incentive to change our minds with completely new insights. Acceptance of our cultures, sensation and cognition of others enrich our souls and make our life truly fascinating.
Inspiration
Remember yourself arriving in a new country for the first time? What did you think about cultural diversity then? I was 10 when I visited Italy, the first foreign country in my life. What amazed me the most were beautiful historical buildings, nuns in the Vatican, sightseeing tours across Rome, Naples or venetian gondolas. It is about culture. But a solely shocker (and a good one) for me were people resided in Italy and tourists from other countries as they are not the same people I had met before. It is about people living a completely different life, grown up with a completely different culture and a language.
So, I was asking myself how to know them better and if it was even possible to analyze other soul with not similar background. At that very moment cultural diversity proved its worth. I was so inspired by getting such experience, it was a breath of fresh air that changed my life forever. I found that it is so important for everybody to live within a society of different cultures as it could bring us thoughts which we did not have being surrounded with the same people.
We are stronger together
I believe that we are as similar as we are different. Thus, this dissimilarity can unite us, not separate. Our attitude towards it is subject of our perception, we are the only people who let our thoughts and superstitions be. During our lifespan we acknowledge our actions, thoughts, behaviors and learn that everyone has the right to live their life and have their own opinion. Should we be compassionate about other people feelings, it will connect us better.
If we catch a glimpse of the cultural diversity definition, we will see its value in every sphere of life, because it is“…a system of beliefs and behaviors that recognizes and respects the presence of all diverse groups in an organization or society, acknowledges and values their socio-cultural differences, and encourages and enables their continued contribution within an inclusive cultural context which empowers all within the organization or society” (C. Rosado, What Makes a School Multicultural?)
It means that everybody is important, this diversity can be the only thing therein we are similar. So, start investigating world by meeting people, be open to everything, and then your journey will begin.
